You will join an interdisciplinary team tackling the biggest challenges in public safety training head-on, including immersive VR based empathy, coping and de-escalation training to help officers engage with the communities they serve, with greater awareness and safety.As one of the expanding members of the Axon's AR/VR team, the XR Game Designer/Product Designer will be responsible for driving the user experience and game play of our existing VR training apps. This role will partner with engineering, content, UX and user research to create the best immersive experiences for our VR trainings.Our AR/VR TeamWe believe that happy teams make the best products, so we foster a friendly, open, introspective team culture that encourages everyone to speak their mind, collaborate together, and have fun. We spend a lot of time with law enforcement officers to learn about their needs, watch their experience and see the real impact of our work. We also work closely with our Axon Community Impact team, along with other community subject experts to create our content and curriculum to reflect the needs of both law enforcement + community.What You'll Do:You will help drive the game play and UX/product design of our 3D training experiences, and be a strategic partner to the Technical Art team, Product Management and Engineering. On any given day you may find yourself:* Assist with creating a XR Axon Styleguide - define UI, XR interactions and patterns* Presenting your latest designs to the XR team for review and feedback* Working with the Narrative Designer on game play ideas* Jumping into Unity or another prototyping tool to iron out your ideas* Getting into headset and reviewing the latest AR/VR build, talking to an engineer about a bug you found* Collaborating with the other UX Designers, sharing working knowledge and mentoring other teammates* Answering a question from a Product Manager about user flow in the experience* Learning more about your customers by running your own user research/user testing to improve the experience* Juggling the priority of multiple projects with your Project Managers* Attending stand-up in VR and sharing with the XR team (standing around you as avatars) your daily update* Researching the latest experiences/interactions in AR/VR -trying them out for yourself in headsetWhat You Bring:* 5-7+ years experience as a Product Designer, Game Designer, UX Designer, ideally with some work in the field of XR* A portfolio showcasing how you frame problems, act on insights, and ultimately design immersive experiences* Experience showcasing your end-to-end design process across multiple projects, that include interaction and visual design, multiple iterations, high-fidelity prototypes, and consideration of the impact and scale of work* Skillfully gauge process and concept fidelity for proposed solutions to meet customer needs.
