The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education.Position Description Job Summary The Innovation Lab at Spelman College invites applications for a Research Scholar in Game Design and Virtual Reality. This is an immediately open, annually renewable, 3-year, full-time, grant-funded appointment with a curriculum development and teaching component. The research involves understanding and developing VR-based workforce training experiences that target underrepresented groups. The position will also involve teaching and curriculum development to support the first ever Gaming/VR development program at Spelman College. Teaching responsibilities include 2/1 load in courses in game/VR design and development as well as other topics that the successful candidate will help create. A Masters in game design, interactive media, computer science or a related discipline is required by the time of appointment, a PhD in these areas is preferred. We are especially interested in applicants whose research interest or professional practices focus on purposeful gaming for social impact, storytelling, education, art and other applications supported by the liberal arts. Some computer programming skill is a strong preference, but not a requirement for candidates with a strong portfolio of accomplishments in the areas of interest.Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education supporting undergraduate research and student mentorship. Essential Duties and Responsibilities •Take a leadership role in the research effort to understand/develop VR-based workforce training simulators that target historically underrepresented groups. This research may lead to working with a GA manufacturer. •Teaches a 2-1 load of undergraduate coursework through the Innovation Lab. •Supervises and trains undergraduate research assistants. •Takes a leading role in quarterly reporting of research progress to funding agency. •Presents research findings at professional conferences. •Assists faculty researchers and other collaborators both at Spelman and externally in planning and designing research studies. •Performs the research required by faculty supervisors to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations. •Works in a collegial and cooperative manner with faculty supervisors and other co-workers.Additional Information In-Person in Atlanta, GAQualifications A Masters in game design, interactive media, computer science or a related discipline is required and a PhD preferred by the time of appointment.Posting Detail Information Posting Number F405P Open Date 04/24/2023 Close Date 05/15/2023 Special Instructions to Applicants Any correspondence regarding the position or your application will be relayed to you by our Faculty Affairs Team.
