VR Product Owner – Charlotte, NC/Remote

12 Month W2 Contract initially

The VR (Virtual Reality) Product Owner will be a part of the Digital Transformation team consisting of product team members responsible for delivering a wide-range of leading edge solutions in Virtual Reality trainings, certifications and programs. This position is primarily responsible for leading a portfolio product team under strategic alignment with the voice of the user, stakeholder and project sponsors. They will serve as the product's internal IT contact within the XR Lab (internal Virtual Reality Team) and Virtual Crew (commercialization VR team) product teams supporting internal and external business partners' digital product builds.

Responsibilities & Duties include:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, technical leaders, business leaders and product team on the intake product requests, lead design sessions to understand project goals and scope of work, define the scope of work, assist in the development of financial estimates, and start new projects while providing product ownership guidance throughout the course of the project with the goal of developing amazing XR digital products that awe our users.
  • Communicate roadmap stage and timelines with key stakeholders and the internal development teams.
  • Removing business impediments for the XR Lab and Virtual Crew team with extensive communication throughout several organizations.
  • Provide agile leadership to the team following the SCRUM framework.
  • Helping the development team to achieve their goals and deliver content on time and to a high quality taking in to account business needs and customer feedback.
  • Define the business drivers of a product and help drive the business direction of a product to fulfill the desired vision while maintaining strong relationships with the development team and external partners.
  • Work with developers and dev leads to ensure that requirements can be translated into functional prototypes or finished products.
  • Manage change requests or scope additions from customers and fitting or adjusting the roadmap and planning accordingly.
  • Trust the team to achieve technical goals and understand technical project implementations.
  • Be open to new ideas and to innovate and foster a culture of kindness, empathy and innovation centered on the users we serve.
  • Turn complex ideas into manageable pieces of work to complete as part of a product team.
  • Provide guidance to leadership and mentor the team so that solutions are built with innovation and sustainability in mind.
  • Creating and optimizing processes and pipelines to ensure efficient development.
  • Providing visibility and effective reporting of project status to stakeholders.
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks proactively.
  • Provide knowledge in game production with multiple shipped titles on PC or Console.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to motivate different teams and disciplines effectively.
  • Managing multiple tasks in parallel and able to balance competing requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a systematic and methodical approach.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; High School/GED AND 9 year(s) related work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of related work experience in addition to Bachelor’s degree.
  • Virtual Reality Experience – VR/XR/ER
  • Agile product development experience.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and stakeholders and build product road maps.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified SCRUM or Agile Product Owner.
  • Experience developing or leading teams developing training environments using UnReal Engine or Unity and using Oculus headsets.
  • Entrepreneurial with a strong inclination towards action, preferably with experience shipping software; Experience with full game/immersive virtual training lifecycle from conception to release and beyond.
  • Ability to communicate complex and innovative concepts to a new product development team.
  • Clear passion for topics of technology products and an ability to identify possibilities to innovate.
  • Ability to be self-directed and to proactively anticipate problems and seek opportunities.
  • Familiarity with testing and quality assurance on IT software development.
  • Experience with relevant new product or technology development experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in the utility industry.
  • Experience as a Product Owner.
  • Agile Product Owner certification.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience with Testpad and Plastic.
