Essential Functions (Job Duties):

POSITION PURPOSE:

Develops and implements Virtual Reality applications for use in ongoing clinical research studies. Collaborates with Principal Investigator(s) to carry out tasks associated with development, evaluation, and application of Virtual Reality technology accurately and efficiently. Oversees production of associated technology on a highly technical level and communicates progress and potential of lab developments with team members and professional partners. Reports to Scientific Director, Neuroscience Center for Anxiety, Stress & Trauma, with a dotted line to Sr. Director, Enterprise Applications, C&IT.

Essential Job Functions:

Uses Vizard, Unity, or similar programs to create three-dimensional immersive environments for use in programmatic research. Writes and maintains code for the purposes of driving environmental functionality and capturing real-time data derived from participant interaction with Virtual Reality environment. Maintains and updates existing three-dimensional environments and assists staff in implementing and troubleshooting all virtual environments. Works with C&IT Security to identify technical and security requirements. Maintains data quality standards, validates methods, and resolves issues. Works with C&IT to ensure compliance with industry and University standards for system design, network access, data security and protection of human participant confidentiality.

Maintains technology used in Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality research studies including desktop and laptop computers, Virtual Reality equipment, peripherals, graphic design tools, audio-visual equipment, motion detection suits, face cameras, and physiological measurement devices.

Investigates and evaluates the suitability of specific software components for assignments. Manages storage and access of data acquired from studies. Prepares written and verbal reports describing developed systems and the general application of immersive technology to biomedical research for publication, or for use by management. Researches techniques and models for simulating human behavior in three-dimensional environments.

Collects and records participants' study-related data into electronic and paper case report forms. Ensures all study-related documentation is completed accurately, in a timely manner, per sponsor requirements. Ensures compliance with protocol guidelines and regulatory agency requirements.

Manages regulatory activities and requirements relevant to the research. Manages the collection of essential regulatory documents and the execution of study protocol. Prepares Institutional Review Board initial applications, amendments, continuations, closures and submits electronically.

Recruits, screens, obtains informed consent, and enrolls eligible participants according to protocol for

clinical studies. Schedules and coordinates participant's study visits or works with outpatient scheduler.

Directly interacts with subjects in a clinic setting, including subject interviews, administering survey

instruments, etc., per protocol requirement. Attends investigator meetings and training as a study team

member.

Meets regularly with C&IT leadership to discuss projects and adopt standardized security and

development practices.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Digital Arts, or related field from an accredited college or

university. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

Two to three years experience performing a combination of the following: Virtual three-dimensional environment

design and development, Virtual Reality application production, or software development for clinical research

purposes. Minimum one-year experience working in a research or clinic environment and interaction with study

populations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Experience with Microsoft Office products (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point) and Electronic Data

Entry/Capture.

• Excellent multi-tasking, problem solving and record-keeping skills.

• Strong ability to work independently, exercising good judgement, with minimal supervision. Organizational and

analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to function with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative, and effective manner.

• Ability to work independently and adhere to established timelines to accomplish tasks. Understanding of ICHGCP

guidelines, OHRP, HIPAA, and FDA regulations.

• Ability to maintain data confidentiality and participant/subject/patient privacy.

• Working knowledge of medical terminology and assessment of laboratory values.

• Advanced knowledge and ability with three-dimensional development tools such as Vizard, Unity, or

equivalents.

• Familiarity with various aspects of three-dimensional development pipeline including three-dimensional

modeling software and model acquisition.

• Proficient with applicable programming languages, including Python and C#.

• Familiarity with optimization practices associated with programming and development of three-dimensional

environments.

• Ability to identify and address bugs and equipment issues without explicit technical guidance. Ability to

effectively interpret and communicate information to facilitate accurate translation of scientific concepts to

technical applications.
