Description

The Virtual Product Development division has an opening for a Senior Engineer in the immersive visualization team.  This team applies computer graphics and virtual reality technology to develop and deploy tools to help with Caterpillar’s product development process.  This position will be located at Caterpillar's Technical Center in Mossville, IL.  As a member of a small interdisciplinary team, you would interact with process partners throughout Caterpillar to deploy and support immersive visualization technology.  You would also be responsible for the day-to-day activities in a world class virtual reality lab and would participate in research projects to further the impact virtual reality has on the enterprise.

Job Duties

Facilitates reviews with stakeholders to identify and address product or process issues early in the product life cycle.

Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution while interacting with and supporting users.

Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.

Drives technology research and deployment focused around delivering business valuable features.

Maintains high standards of quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.

Identifies and encourages areas for growth and improvement within the team.

Communicates with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness.

Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of solutions that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.

Ability to communicate effectively, including presentations to medium-sized audiences.

Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., engineering, computer science, information technology, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with 3D visualization or modeling software (Vis MockUp, Creo, 3D Studio Max, Blender, etc.).

Prior research experience.

Strong computer software and hardware knowledge.

5-10 years of such experience with bachelor’s degree in appropriate field.

7-12 years of demonstrated experience if candidate has a bachelor’s degree that is not in a related field.

Top Candidates will also have

Experience using virtual reality technology for product development and related software (IC.IDO, TechViz, etc.).

Experience using both projection-based (CAVE) and head mounted display virtual reality systems.

Proven ability to work on research projects and transform ideas into deployable solutions.

Prior experience supporting a software application with a large deployment base.

Scripting experience (Python, etc.).

Experience working within Agile workflows (the team uses Kanban).
