The Reality Labs Research team is responsible for developing some of the foundational technologies for Meta's future AR/VR platforms in the areas of machine learning, 3D avatars, next-gen spatial audio, virtual touch, computer vision and more. This role will support the Reality Labs Communications team, driving proactive announcements about the research being conducted inside of our labs that will be needed to make the future metaverse a reality. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role for someone who is passionate about emerging technology, and enjoys distilling technical concepts to craft compelling stories that lay audiences can understand. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, knows how to search for a good story, and thrives when fact-finding in large, distributed organizations. They are also someone who has media relations experience, and can quickly assess risk and respond accordingly. They'll be comfortable with ambiguity and fluidity, and will enjoy diving into the tech. A self-starter is a must for this role.Communications Manager, Reality Labs Research Responsibilities* Work with individual research program leads, to develop a roadmap of external communications beats in support of Meta's communications strategy* Identify risk areas and develop proactive and reactive response plans, keeping key stakeholders appraised on progress and status* Handle a wide range of media relationships and be able to work across complex topics* Write and edit blog posts, pitches, and other creative materials* Plan and manage press events, prep spokespeople, and create briefing materials, in support of external announcements* Collaborate across multiple functions including research, policy, legal and communications on communications plans* Review and provide feedback on technical papers and presentationsMinimum Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or a related field* 8+ years of experience in communications, technical writing, or journalism* Experience with technical or scientific storytelling to a broad audience* Experience assessing PR risk, escalating issues, and forming reactive responses plans in fast-moving, high-stakes situations* Experience working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously* Successful media relations across scientific, tech and consumer press* Project management skills and experience working cross-functionallyPreferred Qualifications* Experience working with researchers* Experience working on AR/VR technologies and/or emerging tech categories* Experience working at a tech company, news outlet, PR agency, or research organizationLocationsAbout MetaMeta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
