Position provides installation, maintenance and troubleshooting support of voice, video, and/or data communications networks. Monitors and responds to hardware and software problems using hardware and software testing tools and techniques. Installs and configures network hardware and software. Provide network troubleshooting and support. Provide technical support and training to end-users. Administer network security. Backs up file server data/disks. Provide minor server maintenance. Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
Participates in special projects as required
Installs, tests, analyzes, and provides problem resolution for all hardware and software elements of the data communication network. Skill provides technical analysis in data network planning, engineering, and design. Monitors all hardware components to ensure terrestrial and possible satellite network communication facilities are operational at optimum levels, tracking throughput and response time of the data network to provide maximum availability and critical scheduling of data transfers. Analyzes user requests to determine needs, and recommends appropriate equipment and software. Position makes corrections necessary to communications systems hardware and software to ensure the availability of the data network. Evaluates and reports on new analog and digital communications technologies to enhance the capabilities of the data network. Proposes solutions to management to provide all the data communications requirements based upon future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Maintains provisioning, servicing, and maintenance activities.
Responsible for performing system management and system administration functions supporting a distributed computing environment consisting of military simulations systems to include Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC) MRF/WARSIM, ERF/JCATS, and Low Overhead Drivers (LOD), and provides for the integration of these systems with Mission Command Systems (MCS) and administrative systems in order to support tailored unit digital MCS training requirements for military units ranging from battalion to echelons above corps.
Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of technical theories, and concepts in the field. Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects.
These functions include the installation, maintenance, and control of MCS applications for logistics, intelligence, and fire support as well as the underlying computer operating systems. Likewise, designs, configures, documents, tests, and modifies computer applications and networks for use in an integrated MCS training environment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities: (application of General Summary attributes)

System Tasks –
-Configures, documents, tests, troubleshoots, creates, and/or modifies computer documentation related to MS Windows XP, MS Windows Servers, RedHat Linux and SUN Solaris based simulation systems, to include Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation Server/Bridge, Extended Air Defense Simulation, Fire Support Simulation, Joint Simulation Protocol Analyzer, Joint Deployment Logistics Model Gateway/Server/Workstations and the Simulation Interchange Module for Logistics and Exercises.
Designs, develops and documents network configuration, to include local area networks, virtual networks, and subnet strategies. Analyzes, tests, and/or modifies computer systems, networking protocols and software programs, in order to provide pertinent solutions to system users, based on and related to user or system design specifications.
Develops hardware infrastructure to provide effective network and operating systems setup and configuration using CISCO networking products. Troubleshoots and tests hardware, software and networks prior to all training events and exercises to ensure minimal downtime of systems, including thread testing of data over network connections between virtual local area networks and subnets, timely data flow,C2 message retrieval between simulation systems and battle command systems.
Analyzes, evaluates and modifies software applications and hardware on the systems listed above to adhere to the dynamic training specifications of end users. Ensure that copies of said systems' software and hardware are up-to-date.
Tests new software and hardware compatibilities and applications as they are updated and released. Modifies computer systems and program documentation, identifies flaws in system configuration, software inconsistencies and implements corrections.
Trains other computer professionals in areas of expertise. Create and implement effective training tools describing the installation, configuration and overall software and hardware technical details, which may include, but is not limited to, step-by-step technical guides, MS Power Point Presentations, one-on-one instruction, and classroom instruction.
Consults with Training Branches and end-users to design, create, configure systems, and document progress of set up and use to meet their training requirements based upon available software and hardware systems. Performs hardware, software and network setup, and designs system and network configuration of classrooms for all systems listed above, providing software systems, applications, network and hardware support during all training events.
Communities of Practice: System analysts are assigned primary Duties and Responsibilities within one or more Functional Areas (FA) of one of the Communities of Practice (CoP) listed below with mutual support requirements across all CoPs.
Individual Training: Mission Command (IT: MC)
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots the network infrastructure, C2 hardware and software, and designs and executes C2 architectures in support of the classroom-training environment.
Provides technical expertise to acquire, install, operate, integrate, and troubleshoot training and exercise systems within the classroom-training environment.
Performs all hardware and software upgrades and new installs during scheduled downtime or at the discretion of the government, and in coordination with the Individual Training supervisor. Tests and validates, prior to use in an exercise, the hardware and software installs and upgrades integrated during scheduled downtime.
Coordinates with Individual Training TIs to resolve problems with an emphasis on minimizing the impact on classroom training.
Collective Training: Mission Command (CT: MC)
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots the network infrastructure, C2 hardware and software, and designs and executes C2 architectures in support of the reconfigurable Tactical Operations Center (TOC) Collective Training environment.
Coordinates with customer unit representatives to resolve interconnection and integration issues between military systems and MTC systems and servers.
Assists customer unit system operators with MTC specific configuration issues as needed.
Executes comprehensive operational procedures for an integrated federation of MC systems and simulation / stimulation systems. Configures system interface nodes supporting end-to-end connectivity and tactical message flow. Monitors the real-time operational status; tests hardware architecture and software for the conduct of staff training employing numerous LVCG+MC capabilities as applicable.
Collective Training: Gaming / Simulations (CT: G&S)
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots the network infrastructure, G&S hardware and software, and designs and executes G&S architectures in support of the simulations environment.
Plans, builds, distributes, and tests G&S databases and supporting configuration files in support of LVCG+MC integrated exercises.
Complies with MTC security requirements. Performs physical security, classified information security, and information assurance security tasks in order to safeguard classified information/equipment and high value government purchased and owned equipment and software.
Ensures that data security, including data retrieval, transmission, and storage is conducted IAW applicable government standards to ensure that data transmission and storage are secure and free from unauthorized access IAW AR 380-5 and AR 25-2.
